august stuff :D

i’ve read several of these scrapbook-like entries or compilations of things that have brought joy to all of you and loved every single one. similarly, i have been listing things that make me happy on my bullet journal for a year now, but with just a few words. i am very happy to share some stuff here and to expand a bit on them. i am sort of slow to try new things, so i think trying to not be repetitive in these entries will help me try those things i keep putting off more quickly.
so let’s start with all the things that have made this month a happy one for me <3

somos novios podcast (seasons 1 and 2)
oh this one was unexpected. it’s a mini-series about a couple of young adults, santi and lola, struggling with some of the big steps of every relationship: marriage, children, forever. the writing is very traditional, given the way in which both characters come to life, with very strong male-associated and female-associated concerns, but it felt very realistic. they have problems putting into words what it is that they want for their future, and by the end of s1, love is not the same that it used to be. one memorable concept that stucked with me was when santi was adamant on how love should not be something that needed “effort to make it work” (“no hay que remarla”), but something that should come naturally to them because they’re supposed to be in love. but when they break up, he’s the one wanting to put tangible effort into the relationship to make it work. it was really binge-worthy, even when they both annoyed me A Lot lmao

bro what the fuck is that gif it looks straight up like some haikyuu scene. i honestly wish i had the manga scene where that happens because i know it does happen at some point. what the fuck [screaming] i know haikyuu is not volleyball school, but i really did learn a lot from it and could enjoy volleyball like never before. i mostly followed the women’s matches though; when it came to the men i only watched argentina’s matches. so i became a fan!! i will try to follow the argentinian national teams now, as well as the brazilian and south korean female national teams because i fell in love with so many players.

16 volumes in and i am almost done with this!! i started reading because it’s my sister’s favourite series and she just recently completed her collection so i couldn’t just let them sit there. i wasn’t hit with the nostalgia that many people must feel for it, because i wasn’t into this series in the 90s, but it really is like a little time machine made of pages. the characters designs, the art style, the feeling that some shounen tropes were reaching their highest potential, the most perfect writing that continued building on the foundations of the format; it all made me feel nostalgic for a time i didn’t actually get to know. it still brought it close to me with such a carefully put together and good-humoured story. i really am loving it.

true crime is another unexpected thing i enjoy. i got to this show through crime junkie, and loved it even more. i don’t know what it is about it, i just couldn’t stop listening to any of the three seasons once i started.

knitting
i am a knitter! i crochet and knit as one of the several crafty hobbies i love and i recently gained some more independence with some tricks and tips i’ve learnt. i love the process. i learnt to knit with the teacher who taught me to draw and paint, and it’s always a reminder of how much she means to me. she feels like a third grandmother to me sometimes. i can’t wait to get back to her and show her all the projects i have going on, since i have been asked to knit two taylor swift cardigans and i have several personal projects of my own.

i can paint, draw, knit and read, so i am suitable for marriage in the regency era. i really love this channel because dissecting a work that’s been endlessly dissected will never not be fun for me.

i haven’t been reading lots of fic lately but i will share these two lines that made my heart flutter because i am that person who reads about the same two bitches falling in love in different ways over and over again
“At this point, they might as well tell Seungcheol to directly ask if Joshua's in love with him and Joshua will still vehemently deny it. He's determined and drunk, a fascinating combination if you ask him.” – bury me til i confess by hikarishu on ao3
“Minghao gives a quick nod. “Oh. Yeah, it’s just… I didn’t think you’d be in a rush to get away from me.” – and the rest is easy by paishhao on ao3

Is it the day you wished for?
As you just asked me: “ask yourself, too.”
do kyungsoo’s empathy
ah, the highlight of my month. my dearest, loveliest kyungsoo. i haven’t stopped thinking about him since the album was announced. i missed him like hell when he was away. something about his quiet gentleness kept making me remember him or want to see content from him; something about how every person he’s worked with has nothing but praise and appreciation for him. it really made me tear up finally listening to his solo album. i feel like I’ve waited for it for so long. it was everything i expected, too, acoustic tracks heavily focused on his voice and talking about these small yet monumental comforts that come from love and friendship and family. i love him. i really recommend his album to everyone.

literacy acquisition conference
my university organised a conference around children’s acquisition of reading and writing. i signed up on a whim, but it was so worth it. i got to attend to most of the talks and it was incredibly inspiring. the amount of work that different professionals put into improving and helping children’s chances at learning how to read and write (because it’s their right) just blew my mind. it rubs me the wrong way that we don’t talk more about these programmes in my country, when they are giving such fruitful and rich results. also, everyone was such a nerd. everyone knew everyone else and commented on the same papers and authors. it was lots of fun to get to know some professors like that. i got this shitty screenshot of one of the presentations bc i am linguist too and quotations like this just make me love my profession even more.

i think this was it! i will hopefully write another entry soon, i have many ideas.
much love to you all.
